Five Tips on Getting New Clients
How To Boost Revenue and Capitalize on Referrals
If you’re just starting out or if you’re seeing some holes in your schedule, it might be time to hit the pavement with some tried and true tactics to get more clients through the door. But with so many stylists in the game these days, procuring new customers is sometimes easier said than done. Here are our five tips for getting new clients and building your revenue base.
Referrals
Treat your clients like gold because they are the best and cheapest way to attract new clients. Every person who sits in your chair opens you up to a network of people you haven’t met yet. If your client loves her service, don’t be afraid to say, “I’m so glad you love it. I just opened up my schedule a bit more and I have some appointments if you know of anyone who is looking for a stylist.” Be sure to have business cards on hand.
Rewards and Promotions
It’s always nice to say thanks. If someone has sent business your way, show your appreciation with a special offer or a discount. A rewards program for referrals or repeat bookings is a great way to keep clients coming back. Seasonal discounts on special services can entice customers to try something new as well. Not interested in offering a deal? Try promoting a complimentary upgrade or additional service as a way to say thanks or welcome someone new.
Networking
Online or in-person events are great ways to get out there and meet new people. Support local small businesses, get active with your Chamber of Commerce, and support other service businesses that have like-minded clients. Your pilates instructor, facialist, and even the bartender at your favorite restaurant are all people who could become referrers. Also, don’t forget the local real estate agents. People who are new to town always need a hairstylist, stat!
Social Media
These days almost all hairstylists are on Instagram, Tik-Tok, and other social media platforms and for good reason. Social media is a great way to showcase your skills, connect with potential clients, and see what other people in your space are up to. Just make sure that it’s easy for clients to book appointments directly through your platform of choice. No one wants to be bothered leaving a message and waiting for a call-back.
Branding
A lot of stylists and small business owners find it tough to go out and “ask” for business. With a professional logo, a great aesthetic, and a comfortable environment, it makes it a lot easier to shout from the rooftops about who you are and what you do. Invest in a look that feels professional and ties your space, social, and website together nicely. Something as simple as a “selfie station” will allow clients to engage and do the promoting for you.
Don’t forget that everyone you meet could be a potential client and first impressions make a huge difference. Make sure you look the part and don’t be afraid to experiment with different ideas before settling on what will work best for you. Need a hand with your marketing strategy?
